We have had the same experience with our darling Holly.
Our beautiful girl was only 7 years old.
We noticed only about three weeks ago she was not herself and decided to take her to the vet.
She had a limp with her front paw, we tought she had pulled a mussle or something.
The vet checked her hind legs and found a large lump and took a biopsy.
The result was this form of cancer and she was going downhill fast.
So on the 26th of September 2011 we had Holly put to sleep.
Her soul will now be at peace.
This has been traumatic for us as she was like a child and it will take a long time to get over the loss of her.
